Lean, Green, Hunting Machine– May 30, 2013
I spotted this green heron hanging out, quite literally, in one of the canals in the neighborhood. Balancing on the rope seemed a precarious perch, but he never once slipped or faltered. Rather he stayed intensely focused on the business at hand. By now I should know that these creatures know what they are doing, and don’t need my help.
Meanwhile down by the marina, the little blue heron took up an interesting perch of his own atop one of the piling. His blue coloring is a perfect match for the blues visible in the background–couldn’t have planned it if I tried.
Looking closely at these two birds reminds me of how uniquely, and marvelously colorful they are. The green heron has a herringbone design on its wings. Who thinks up these things?
