A Year on Clear Lake-May 2, 2013

On a Mission–May 2, 2013

The yellow-crested night heron makes a beeline for prime real estate at the watering hole. He is the epitome of focus with eyes riveted on the goal. My new hero, he is a reminder to me to clearly know what it is that I want, and to remain  focused.

I’ve spotted this pair of mallards on the last few visits, and have wondered: Does this mean we will have a second chance at ducklings? If so, I hope the weather is more favorable than for our last brood. The mother has a tough enough job feeding the little ones and protecting them from predators–poor weather conditions make an already difficult task especially challenging. We’ll keep an eye on future developments.
