A Year on Clear Lake-Jun 11, 2013

Bye, Bye, Birdie–June 11, 2013

I spotted this baby house sparrow perched on our boardwalk’s ladder.  Love this time of the summer when the babies start their fledgling stage. The baby purple martins are stirring, as well.

Went back to the peninsular today (can’t stay away), but only had a few minutes to explore. Found racoon’s tracks in the mud, and this beautiful passion flower. And, I guess the joke’s on me regarding cacti growing beside the water, because there are huge stands of cacti on the peninsular.

The only thing disconcerting was the Coast Guard boat–with its machine gun mounted on the front. I’d say they’re ready for anything.  Anything!

Green Thought: I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in. ~John Muir, 1913, in L.M. Wolfe, ed., John Muir, John of the Mountains: The Unpublished Journals of John Muir, 1938
