It was like old home week at the marina today. Running behind I only had time to drop by, but what a blast. The old gang was all there, and then some. I’ve missed the Little Blue Heron. He is one of my favorites, but I haven’t seen any of these herons near the peninsula area. Note that his bill is not as brilliant a turquoise as it was earlier in the season. The color is brighter during breeding season.
Along with the Little Blue Heron was the Great White Egret, the Snowy Egret, three Green Herons, and even a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron. The only two missing from the scene were the Great Blue Heron and the Black-Crowned Night Heron.
We had another visitor to the old purple martin house–a YCNH. A few of the purple martins were up in arms about his un-welcomed visit, but they did little to scare him off. What little they did do–a few dive bombs–he totally ignored.
