A Year on Clear Lake-Jul 03, 2013

Serene Sunset–July 3, 2013

Another surprise today. Tomorrow is the 4th, and our community celebrates with fireworks over the lake. Can you guess where they ignite the fireworks? The peninsular, of course. It will be closed to foot traffic today and tomorrow as the city gets ready for the display, and then shoots the fireworks off Thursday night. I feel sorry for the wildlife. Seems we are always intruding upon their peace and tranquility. Funny. I never thought about it before, but then I never even knew what was over there. I wonder how many other people are like I was – oblivious?

Locked out of the peninsular, I wandered back to the marina–the old watering hole. Haven’t been there for over a month. The owner continues to make improvements to the property. I’m not certain how much longer the property will be accessible, so I’m glad I found my way to the peninsular. But it was pleasant visiting the old place and finding old friends– the great blue heron, the great white egret, and a black-crowned night heron were there. And, of course, there are always wildflowers.

Green Thought: People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us. ~Iris Murdoch, A Fairly Honourable Defeat
