Space Shuttle Endeavor took its last flight from Kennedy Space Center to Los Angeles in September 2012. Along the way it made various stops and flybys at several space centers including Alabama’s Marshall in Huntsville, the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, the White Sands facility in New Mexico, and a flyover in Tucson, Arizona for Representative Gabby Gifford and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly before landing at its final destination in California.
En route the spacecraft flew overhead around Clear Lake multiple times before landing at nearby Ellington Air Force Base for an overnight stop. Thousands visited Endeavor for a final up close look and send off. She took off once again the following morning and made a final lap around the lake before disappearing into the horizon.
It was an emotional send off, and a proud one.
