A Year on Clear Lake-Dec 27, 2012

A touch of color – Dec 27, 2012

Though  we have endured a few chilly nights, it hasn’t been cold enough yet to damped the spirit of this  frost-sensitive plant. Now in full bloom, the  bougainvillea adds a splash of brilliant color to an overwhelmingly gray backdrop.

The plant is perfect for the Clear Lake area. It loves the heat of summer and welcomes a full day of sun. It is drought-resistant – a particularly beneficial feature, it turns out, in these days of climate change.  And it has a high salt tolerance making it perfect for our Gulf Coast area. Did I mention that it thrives in locales with mild winters?

Its cheery petals were a welcome sight today- a day that started out gray and overcast, and finished gray and rainy.
